The officers of the Kingsport Police Department patrol a city with a population of 47,356, is 49.54 square miles in size, and encompasses land in Sullivan and Hawkins Counties of Tennessee. The city has 449.92 miles of roadway, including 24.69 miles of interstate highways.

In 2009, the Patrol Division conducted 54,527 investigations based on citizen complaints. These calls for service resulted in 4,694 arrests. Included in these arrests were 561 drug related arrests. Additionally, Kingsport Police Department members conducted 38,314 self-initiated actions dealing with hazardous conditions, traffic code violations, business checks, and other officer activities. Officers in our Patrol Division seized 21 vehicles for DUI /Revoked offenses and 21 vehicles for drug offenses.
