Red Light Traffic Enforcement System

In 2009 / 2010 fiscal year, Red Light Traffic Enforcement System captured 19,020 violations in the City of Kingsport at 10 intersections. Due to factors such as license plate obstructions, sun glare, multiple vehicles in the same frame, safe turns on red, weather conditions, or the issuing state not being identifiable, etc., there were 6,120 citations dismissed, which left 12,900 available for prosecution. The officers reviewing the citations rejected 3,483 citations for similar reasons. In all, there were 9,417 citations issued for red light camera violations. From the above fiscal year, there are approximately 202 citations currently pending. Of all violations captured, 49.51% received citations. During the fiscal year, 1,048 were sent to collections, 192 were held for new address searches, and 526 were dismissed. Approximately nine citations were satisfied and/or pending by bankruptcy, partially paid or insufficient funds. There were 8,015 paid citations in 2009/2010, from various fiscal years including fiscal year 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010. The intersection of Stone Drive at Clinchfield Street issued the most citations followed closely by Stone Drive at New Beasonwell Road (Eastbound).
