Recent Promotions and Retirements

Over the past few months, several veteran Kingsport Police Department officers have retired, resulting in multiple promotions to fill their vacancies. The Kingsport Police Department wishes to express our most sincere gratitude to these recently retired officers for a lifetime of service to the police department and to the Kingsport community. We also would like to congratulate these newly promoted officers and wish them the best of luck in their new leadership positions and their future endeavors with the department.

 

 

Promotions

Lieutenant Todd Harrison

Todd Harrison was promoted to Lieutenant November 18, 2012. Lieutenant Harrison’s promotion filled a vacancy created with Captain Jason Bellamy’s promotion on September 11, 2011. Lieutenant Harrison will be assigned to the Administrative Division and will oversee the Training Division, Accreditation, Evidence, Records and the administrative portion of the city jail. Lieutenant Harrison has been with the Kingsport Police Department for 23 years and graduated from the Tennessee Law Enforcement Academy in 1990. Lieutenant Harrison has served as a Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Community Police Officer, Detective, Special Agent with the 2nd Judicial Drug Task Force, Corporal and Sergeant. Lieutenant Harrison currently serves on the KPD Honor Guard. Lieutenant Harrison holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from East Tennessee State University in Criminal Justice.

Sergeant Frank Light

Frank Light was promoted to Sergeant November 18, 2012. Sergeant Light’s promotion filled a vacancy created with Lieutenant Harrison’s Promotion. Sergeant Light will be assigned to the Records Division and will be Kingsport Police Department’s Crime Analyst. Sergeant Light has been with the Kingsport Police Department for 24 years and graduated from the Tennessee Law Enforcement Academy in 1989. Sergeant Light has served as a Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Corporal, Detective Corporal, Honor Guard team member and Internal Affairs Investigator. Sergeant Light holds an Associate’s Degree from Walters State Community College and is a 1998 Graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy.

Corporal Martin Taylor

Martin Taylor was promoted to Corporal November 18, 2012. Corporal Taylor’s promotion filled a vacancy created with Sergeant Frank Light’s promotion. Corporal Taylor will be assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division as a Detective Corporal. Corporal Taylor has been with the Kingsport Police Department for 6 years and graduated from Walters State Community College Police Academy in 1990. Corporal Taylor has served the Kingsport Police Department as a Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Methamphetamine Clandestine Laboratory Technician, and Detective. Corporal Taylor has performed various other duties with Hawkins County, TN law enforcement agencies prior to joining the Kingsport Police Department. Corporal Taylor holds an Associate of Science Degree from Walters State Community College in Criminal Justice.

Lieutenant Timothy Crawford

Timothy Crawford was promoted January 13, 2013. Lieutenant Crawford’s promotion filled a vacancy created with the retirement of Lieutenant Jerry Robinson. Lieutenant Crawford will assume command of Kingsport Police Department’s 2nd Platoon as a Watch Commander. Lieutenant Crawford has been with the Kingsport Police Department for 26 years and graduated from the Tennessee Law Enforcement Academy in 1987. Lieutenant Crawford has served as a Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, K-9 Supervisor, Community Police Supervisor and Vice Supervisor. Lieutenant Crawford holds an Associate Degree and a Bachelor of Science Degree from East Tennessee State University in Criminal Justice.

Sergeant Thomas M. Wayt Jr.

Thomas Wayt was promoted January 13, 2013. Sergeant Wayt’s promotion filled a vacancy created with the promotion of Lieutenant Timothy Crawford. Sergeant Wayt will be assigned to the Training Division and will be the Training Division/Community Relations supervisor. Sergeant Wayt has been with the Kingsport Police Department for 9 years and graduated from Walters State Community College Police Academy in 2004. Sergeant Wayt has served as a Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Community Police Officer, SWAT Team member and Training Corporal. Sergeant Wayt is certified as a Paramedic and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Bethel University in Criminal Justice.No picture available.

Corporal Hank McQueen

Hank McQueen was promoted January 13, 2013. Corporal McQueen’s promotion fills a vacancy created with the retirement of Corporal Darla Anderson. Corporal McQueen will be assigned to Kingsport Police Department’s 2nd Platoon as a Corporal/Lead Field Training Officer. Corporal McQueen has been with the Kingsport Police Department for 16 years and graduated from the Tennessee Law Enforcement Academy in 1995. Corporal McQueen has served as a Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Detective, Vice Detective and Director of the 2nd Judicial Drug Task Force. Corporal McQueen is a 2003 graduate of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Academy and U.S. Secret Service Academy. Corporal McQueen holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Tusculum College in Organizational Management.

Corporal John Blessing

John Blessing was promoted January 13, 2013. Corporal Blessing’s promotion filled a vacancy created with the promotion of Sergeant Thomas Wayt. Corporal Blessing will be assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division as a Detective Corporal. Corporal Blessing has been with the Kingsport Police Department for 23 years and graduated from the Tennessee Law Enforcement Academy in 1990. Corporal Blessing has served as a Patrol Officer, Detective, Code Enforcement Coordinator and Quartermaster/Evidence Custodian.

Lieutenant Sean Chambers

Sean Chambers was promoted February 10, 2013. Lieutenant Chambers’ promotion filled a vacancy created with the retirement of Lieutenant Rick Meredith. Lieutenant Chambers will assume command of the Kingsport Police Department’s 4th Platoon as a Watch Commander. Lieutenant Chambers has been with the Kingsport Police Department for 19 years and graduated from the Tennessee Law Enforcement Academy in 1995. Lieutenant Chambers has served as a Jailer, Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Community Police Officer, Vice Detective, 2nd Judicial Drug Task Force Director, Corporal and Sergeant. Lieutenant Chambers holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from East Tennessee State University in Criminal Justice.

Sergeant Johnny Berry

Johnny Berry was promoted February 10, 2013. Sergeant Berry’s promotion filled a vacancy created with the promotion of Lieutenant Chambers. Sergeant Berry will be assigned to the Kingsport Police Department’s 3rd Platoon as a Patrol Sergeant. Sergeant Berry has been with the Kingsport Police Department for 29 years and graduated from the Tennessee Law Enforcement Academy in 1985. Sergeant Berry has served as a Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer and Corporal. Sergeant Berry currently serves as Senior Firearms Instructor and Assistant Team -Leader of the SWAT team.

Corporal Ed Ragsdale

Ed Ragsdale was promoted February 10, 2013. Corporal Ragsdale’s promotion fills a vacancy created with the promotion of Sergeant Johnny Berry. Corporal Ragsdale will be assigned to the Kingsport Police Department’s 4th Platoon as a Corporal/Lead Field Training Officer. Corporal Ragsdale has been with the Kingsport Police Department for 10 years and graduated from Walters State Community College Police Academy in 2003. Corporal Ragsdale has served as a Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Community Police Officer and Detective. Corporal Ragsdale currently serves as a SWAT team member and is a member of the Honor Guard. Corporal Ragsdale holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from East Tennessee State University in Mass Communications.

 

RETIREMENTS

Lieutenant Jerry Robinson

Jerry Robinson retired January 12, 2013. Lieutenant Robinson faithfully served the Kingsport Police Department and the citizens of Kingsport for 24 years.

Lieutenant Rick Meredith

Rick Meredith retired January 31, 2013. Lieutenant Meredith faithfully served the Kingsport Police Department and the citizens of Kingsport for 28 years.

Corporal Darla Anderson

Darla Anderson retired January 4, 2013. Corporal Anderson faithfully served the Kingsport Police Department and the citizens of Kingsport for 27 years.

Patrolman Thomas Wyrick

Thomas Wyrick retired December 30, 2012. Patrolman Wyrick faithfully served the Kingsport Police Department and the citizens of Kingsport for 36 years.
